From the start of this week Pokemon Go players received some strange information; some players have the legendary ice bird, Articuno on their accounts. This was rejected by many players or it was thought that these individuals hacked the game to add them to their accounts however a statement from Niantic suggests otherwise.
Niantic contacted IGN to provide them with this statement:
“We recently noticed that a few Legendary Pokemon got into a few accounts when they shouldn’t have, To preserve the game’s integrity and as a measure of fairness, we have rectified the situation and revoked the legendary Pokemon from the Trainers’ accounts.”
The developer has no provided any more information about this; however, one of the user named kaitcovey on Reddit claimed that Niantic gifted them the Pokemon. So far Niantic has not made any comments about this claim. Their statement however suggests that there was some kind of bug or glitch which caused the legendary Pokemon to appear in the game; if players hacked the Pokemon in then the developer would have most likely announced they had dealt with a group of hackers.
Hopefully Niantic will release some more details about this issue considering there was also another user who claimed to own a legitimate Ditto; according to them, they were given a 1KM egg by Niantic. It then hatched into a Ditto, this Pokemon is also not yet available for capture and should not be in the game.
