It’s been one year today from the day Harambe was mercilessly shot dead, just a day after he turned 17, by the zookeepers at Cincinatti Zoo.
The act was carried out after a child fell into the ape’s enclosure. Harambe was a 400-pound male gorilla who lost his life on May 28, 2016.
The internet erupted over his death with many feeling that killing him was extreme and there were better ways to save the kid, especially since Harambe didn’t really appear to attack him.
Soon enough a lot of memes began circulating about the ape and a dedicated Facebook page was also setup. It currently has more than 800,000 followers. A lot of references were also made by celebs and other people about Harambe.
Even a Pokemon was designed based on the ape and people started a petition which got over 30,000 signatures.
Although a bullet killed Harambe today, one year ago, his memory was forever secured in the form of the memes and his memory in our hearts. That is something that no one can ever take away from us.
R.I.P you legend.
